I’m home today recovering from a nasty sinus infection (among other things) and finally felt good enough to watch some inspirational/motivational things on YouTube. The idea of having a destiny or purpose came up in one of the segments.
So many spiritual leaders and coaches talk about each of us having a grand purpose that no one else can claim or tackle. They make it sound like you must know what the big, important purpose is and how to walk with it into YOUR future. And they make it sound like you’re missing out on your whole life if you don’t know that THAT PURPOSE is.
I’ve pondered this concept long and hard … almost to the point of it making me crazy, angry, depressed, and more … because I couldn’t figure out what MY destiny or purpose was. I first encountered all the “purpose” talk about 10 years ago. I’d recently divorced an alcoholic husband after almost 25 years of marriage and having a life driven by one’s purpose was the hot topic of conversation almost everywhere. So I set off to find MY purpose.
But that wasn’t so easy. You see, most of us are not here to create big, bold, nationally recognized businesses or names. Most of us are here to simply be “the light” … wherever we happen to be sitting or standing at THAT moment in time. And yet many of us miss the opportunity to be the light in our workplace because we’re looking for that grand adventure of our “purpose”. We miss being the light in our family because so many teachers say, “there has to be more”. We miss being the light for the clerk at the store who simply needs a smile and a kind word because we’re looking for a bigger opportunity to be seen and heard.
I’ve come to realize that for most of us, our purpose is to be the light that starts the ripple … never knowing how far the ripple might travel. Do you know what I mean?
When you drop a pebble into a body of water, it creates a ripples that expand outwardly across the water. Sometimes ripples are joined to other ripples (like during a rain shower) and momentum builds. I believe this is what we are here on Earth to do … be the pebble that creates a ripple effect. Our purpose doesn’t have to be big or grand … although it might be. And our purpose changes depending on the stage of our life. I’m almost 60 and what I can do in my life now is very different than what I did when I first got out of school. The people I talk to now are not the same people I reached when my children were little or when they were teenagers. This means my circle of influence changes as I change.
Some of the things that are important to me are evident by what I share here on my website: holistic health, community wellness, chemical free living, essential oils, law of attraction, spiritual laws, mindfulness, and so much more. But that’s not everything that’s important to me … some things are meant to be shared only with family … and that is also part of your purpose … the legacy or history of one’s family.
What message do you feel the world needs to hear? Remember, the message is best received when shared in love. How can you share that message … right where you are … in THIS moment? What ripple can you start … never knowing where it might end or how many it will touch? Those things don’t really matter. All that matters is that you be yourself in this moment in time and let the ripples do their thing as they expand across the surface of the Earth.
I enjoyed a year-end, year-beginning session with one of my coaches (Beth Katherine) yesterday. I didn’t have anything specific in mind, just wanted to see what insight/intuitive information Beth might be able to give me as I closed one year and started the new one.
During the initial query part of the call, she asked me what I was excited about in my life. To be honest, I don’t “get excited” … at least I don’t really FEEL excitement (that’s from a past life experience and I’m working on it … but that’s for another post). Anyway, I realized I was kind of stoked about some cosmetic things I was doing at home (painting, re-doing my kitchen, etc) and the frugal ways which I’d found to make some drastic improvements … I adore frugal and fabulous and a good “find” can be pretty stimulating for me.
Beth scanned my chakras and we then talked about some stickiness in my root and sacral chakras and discussed where the beliefs causing the stickiness might come from. We talked about possible affirmations and clearing work that I could do around these areas and I decided to change the affirmations I was using with my morning Rosary (prayer beads) to focus on these areas. I took some time this morning to reflect and create them and thought I’d share them with you. Feel free to use or modify them to fit your needs.
I begin my Rosary at the cross with a variation of the Prayer of Jabez. I hadn’t thought about this prayer for many years until a month or so ago. It helps me to connect with God/Goddess (Source, the Divine, etc.) and allows me to ask to be guided on my path for the day. For the next 5 beads, I reflect on the elements (air, fire, water, earth, spirit) and ask to be shown how to better use their wisdom. When I get to the 3-way Centerpiece, I focus on the Prayer of St. Francis and how I can walk the message in my daily life. My mom used to play the organ at church and I always enjoyed the version that she played when I was little … I guess it’s kind of just stuck in my head (although the words are a little different now).
Then it’s on to the first decade (group of 10) — “I am fully embracing God’s dream of me.” Don’t we all want to embrace God’s dream for/of us rather than the one the world seems to have painted for us?
The first single (mystery) bead — “Abundance is my birthright.”
Second decade — “Mother Earth abundantly supplies all my needs that I might share the excess with others.”
Second mystery bead — “Money easily comes from all directions.” I keep the elements in my thoughts.
Third decade — “It is safe for me to be physically supported with earthly prosperity on this earth walk.”
Third mystery bead — “It is OK to be me.”
Fourth decade — “It is safe for me to be seen and heard.” Speaks to beliefs that come from being imprisoned/hunted in past life times.
Fourth mystery bead — “I am deeply loved and valued.”
Fifth decade — “It is safe for me to share myself and my message.”
Back to the Centerpiece — “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” (Gandhi) which echoes the concepts of the Prayer of St. Francis. Then return to the five elements and close with “And so be it. This or something better … for everyone’s highest good.”
Not the traditional Rosary but one that speaks to where I am today in seeking balance in my life and clearing things from the past which no longer serve me. I think I’ll put some of my “Let It Go” essential oil blend in the diffuser in the days to come which will also assist me in letting go of limiting beliefs and moving forward on my path. Note: I add a drop of Ho Wood (or Rosewood) … just because I add it to almost everything :).
Would love for you to share your thoughts/comments below.
It’s been a while since I’ve posted and wanted to share some things that are happening at Mystic Dragonfly. In addition to my online offerings, I now have an office in my home and I can easily provide those in my community with a variety of holistic health services. In addition to massage, Reiki and chakra balancing, I am thrilled to also offer Emotion Code sessions, ionic foot bath detox, Kansa wand facial massage, guided meditation relaxation sessions, coaching sessions, Angel/Oracle card readings, and flower essence consultations. Many of these services are available for the pets/animals in your life as well.
Over the next couple of weeks will be putting together a schedule of classes for early 2018 on a variety of healthy living topics. Many will be provided free of charge to those in my community. This, too, is part of my commitment to providing access to healthy living options to those who really need them. I recently restructured the cost of my services and threw convention and “normal” out the window. I want you to know about, and be able to afford, options that will help you feel better, think better, sleep better, and BE better. I know there are many in my community who want to be better, but the high cost of anything not covered my insurance keeps you doing the same thing and getting the same results … nothing changes. I want to change all that.
While I value my time and skills, I also value the well-being of my community and I want people to know how they can affordably make little changes that will make a big difference. It doesn’t cost anything to change the way we think (and thoughts are things and contribute to our emotional well-being). It actually saves money to “go green” with household cleaning products and it removes harmful chemicals and toxins from our lives. Learning to use essential oils in our every day life benefits our health and greatly impacts the lives of our families as well. Taking time for personal or self-care is not a new concept and yet many of us don’t do this one thing that can bring us more peace and clarity which, in turn, brings more happiness.
I want to help you simplify your life and provide you the resources that can help you BE better. I’ve decided not to sell anything through MLMs to make money for myself, but rather to honor my frugal nature and research less costly equivalent items and help you know where to purchase them and how to use them. As such, you’ll find affiliate links on many pages … while I do get a small commission for sharing, there is no added cost to you.
I’ve taken many online classes the past couple of years and will be taking more (in addition to the coursework required to maintain my massage therapy license). I want to be informed, not only for myself, but for those around me who may not have the time to research or know what questions to ask. And when people ask or wonder, I want to at least have a resource I can point them to. It’s not my desire to HAVE all the answers … but I do want to know where to FIND them 🙂
That’s all for now. I’ll be back soon with details about the all natural Swag Bags I’m putting together for holiday gifts … all natural and yet they create the feel of luxury.

If you’re a regular reader, you might remember my post a little while ago about Reclaiming My Rosary where I talked about using my rosary in a non-traditional way as a meditation tool. For the past few weeks, I’ve been using some personal affirmations, elemental/directional statements, parts of the Prayer of St. Francis, and paraphrases of the Reiki Principles during my meditation. It helps me focus my meditation and provides positive statements for my mind to dwell on. And it’s made a big difference in my mental outlook in just a few short weeks.
I’ve had time over the past few days to listen to some Abraham Hicks sound clips on YouTube … you gotta love the wealth of information that’s on YouTube. Anyway, I’m working on a short list of meaningful statements to use during my devotional time which will allow me to focus on even more positive results. One of my favorites is “everything always works out for me”. I figured if I started a list and rotated it every month that I could work on lots of affirmations and statements over the course of a year.
Oh, I could write them on a piece of paper and carry them with me and hope I remembered to say them during the day. Even so, would I be focused on the statement or would my mind be wandering off in a thousand directions thinking about what I needed to do next? By using my prayer beads or rosary, I am quietly and intentionally focused, and the clarity of mind makes believing those statements easier (when we believe it we see it). This unencumbered, focused intent allows new thought patterns or pathways to develop in my subconscious and enables me to more easily rewrite the outdated coding or programming that no longer serves me. Ahhhh … another statement … I easily release that which no longer serves me.
I’m breathing easier and deeper than I was a few weeks ago. I’ve noticed the tension in my jaw is mostly gone now. My anxiety is subsiding and I haven’t noticed a panic attack in a while. My shoulders are relaxed and my stomach isn’t upset all the time and my blood pressure is lower and much more stable (as is my heart rate). The only thing I’ve changed is that I’ve incorporated meditation with my prayer beads into my morning routine/quiet time. Yes, I have to get up earlier, but it is so totally worth it. Next is getting up a little earlier so I can get in 15-20 minutes of yoga.
If you’d like more information about dedicating some time to yourself that will help you get grounded and centered, let me know. If you need some ideas for affirmations or belief statements, I’ll be glad to help. Use the Contact Form and drop me a note.
Sometimes letting go of things that no longer serve our highest interest is easier said than done. Those pesky thoughts keep coming back and are often at conflict with the new thoughts and beliefs we want to bring forth. Maintaining balanced thought processes and healthy relationships can be a real challenge. Despite our best efforts, it just seems like we are in a pit of quicksand that those old thought patterns are slowly sucking us in and holding on tight. Just when we think we’re about to break free, we lose our grip on the life rope or low hanging branch and are stuck again.
When all else failed, I turned to traditional medicine for my extreme anxiety. But I knew I wanted it to be temporary … you know how the ER stabilizes you to move to the next step … that’s what I wanted my traditional medication to be … something to give me a little relief on my way to recovery. I needed a break … and I needed some sleep (it had been decades since I’d had a GOOD night’s sleep and I knew it wasn’t healthy for me to go on that way). After a few months of stability, I was ready to get serious about an essential oil blend that would really address all the pieces of my anxiety and insomnia. After quite a bit of research, I came across a couple of blends that I combined and tweaked just a bit and came up with a blend that I’ve shared with a few folks. It smells great and is really relaxing and allows a sense of peace and calm to easily settle in. I’ve started using it in my diffuser at work as well as at home in the evening.
The grounding and calming essential oils help dispel depression, anger and grief. It helps release buried emotional trauma and helps restore energy, confidence and calms the nerves. It’s a great oil to try for PTSD – the oils for this blend work together to help release negative emotions, frustration, and anxieties and allow you to focus your thoughts so you function more effectively. When worrisome thoughts won’t leave you alone … inhale, relax and let them go.
EOs in my blend: Frankincense, Geranium, Myrrh, Helichrysum, Lavender, Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Ho Wood (I love just a little dab of Ho Wood in almost everything … it’s one of my favorites).
If you’ve tried EOs to “let go” or for “peace and calming” … let me know what worked for you.

We use a LOT of essential oils at my house. My mom started using them about 30 years ago but when she passed about 15 years ago, we kind of fell away from it … she was the resident expert and I just didn’t have time to think about it. A few years ago, I got pretty serious about using natural products in my house and for my health. I did tons of research as essential oils were becoming a hot topic. I opted not to use any kind of MLM product … for many reasons. I wanted to provide some information here for folks who may be using them or considering their use. There are several well-researched articles already on the internet and I’m not one to reinvent the wheel … so I’m going to provide those links for your research and reference.

I grew up in the Catholic Church … it’s a part of my heritage that goes back several generations. To make a LONG story short, I walked away from the Catholic Church shortly after high school and I think I explored most other Christian churches in the 30 years that followed before walking away from the church about 8 years ago. I was tired of the hypocrisy and hatred/condemnation that was spewed from the pulpits rather than the love, compassion, and forgiveness which is the story of the Bible. I walked away from the church, but I didn’t walk away from God. I am deeply spiritual and it was important for me to maintain a connection with the Creator and have reverence for the earth (all life).
When my mom passed from this earth plane in 2004, I received a rosary that was in her jewelry box. It was made of rosewood beads and had never been used. I think it might have even been a gift from my dad’s mom who had passed decades earlier. For several years, it sat in my jewelry box, too. I noticed it one day and felt a little nudge to place it on my home altar … a place which also honors my ancestors.
The past few weeks, I’ve felt called to return to the Catholic Church. I even went and talked to the priest at my dad’s church. You see, my practices of natural health care and honoring nature (in addition to being an intuitive) got women banished from the church not so long ago (centuries ago, we were burned at the stake). There was a lot more to my query, but that’s another story. I decided to go to mass the other day for the first time in many, many years.
As a visitor, I was given a small package with some “welcome” tokens. One was a rosary and a pamphlet about why one should regularly pray the rosary. I read through it and was drawn to pick up my rosewood beads … but not in the traditional sense.
I did some quick (and I do mean quick) research on the history of the rosary (for Catholics and other Christians) as well as prayer beads in general. The rosary is a form of meditation and connecting with God. Moving from bead to bead helps provide focus and creates a “time” with a beginning and an end. I wanted to personalize my “time” to make it more meaningful.
Rather than rote prayers, I open with a humble request to be shown what I need to know for “today” to better serve. I then ask to receive from Spirit the information and wisdom I need as I go about my day … I seek to better understand the five elements as used in the mass (air/breath, fire/transformation, water/cleansing, earth/nourishing, spirit/unity). When I pray the decades, each group is an affirmation for my personal spiritual growth … what I am working on at this time. I have been using affirmations in this way for quite some time (usually a month at a time) and simply do them as part of the rosary now whereas they used to just be a part of my morning routine. This allows my Rosary to be completely personal and more meaningful for me.
I discovered many others are using a similar, more personal approach to the Rosary. I also discovered that there are Protestant Rosaries and that Prayer Beads are a part of many religions. And I’ll likely be doing some in-depth research on the rosary which will nourish my inner geek and allow me to better understand this form of prayer. Please share your experiences, observations, and thoughts.

Every morning I sit in a rocking chair on my front porch with my coffee and journal. No one else in my home is yet awake. It is my special time. My time to reflect and to talk to my Creator (God, Source, Spirit, …). Part of this morning ritual involves noticing signs or symbols that may be different than “normal”. I believe Spirit speaks to me in the things that are all around me … including people, animals, even the weather. This morning, there were lots of birds chattering and singing. Not really unusual. But among the noise, almost unnoticeable, I heard the soft sounds of an owl. I couldn’t see her/him, but if I listened closely, the gentle “who, who” was there.
I noted the owl in my journal and reflected on what it might mean. There is so much noise in the world today. So many people loudly demanding attention and to be noticed. Yet, in the quietness, there are some who are making bold statements. These statements often receive harsh criticism because they are “different” and striking a chord of disharmony among the masses. People are being asked to change long-held beliefs and ways of life. People feel protests are dividing us. Yes, they are. Protests make things uncomfortable for a reason … they make us think (normally about injustice).
If we listen, the wisdom borne from the silence can teach us so many things. Be still and let your heart talk to you. Don’t listen to the chaos around you. Don’t listen to the programming from the past. Don’t listen to hateful rhetoric of the ages. Listen to your heart and listen for love. Let wisdom talk to you and reveal truth. It’s not usually what we expect and often moves us out of our comfort zone.
But truth, that is what we all seek and that is what wisdom wishes to share.

Good morning everyone. I was sitting on my front porch a little while ago with my journal and a cup of coffee. Hurricane Irma is hitting south Florida and headed my way. I felt an overwhelming feeling that I need to share with folks who I hope will understand. I truly believe that everything has its own spirit, including our houses and cars and stuff like that. When my family bought our house 5+ years ago, there were a LOT of things on our “must have” list because we are a multi-generational family living under 1 roof. Although this house looked rough, I could see her structure was extremely sound and she just needed some thoughtfully applied cosmetics She also had EVERYTHING on the “must have” list and then some.
My whole family LOVES this house. We struggled with what colors to paint, and we have waited for the house to let us know how to best utilize her for our needs. A couple of years ago, I painted one of the bedrooms … it is now our magic/healing room/office. Last weekend, I painted a second bedroom … the one I use (but not the master suite). We LOVE the functionality of this house but I have lately felt her “asking” me to help her be “pretty” for us as well as functional. So, this morning as I sit in my quiet time as I do every morning, I feel my house assuring me that she loves us as much as we love her and that she will protect us.
Yesterday, I asked my guardian angels to place themselves around the perimeter of my property to keep it safe. I truly feel like there is a dome of protection around and over us. I have also asked that our wonderful neighbors be kept safe and that we maintain power and water because several of our neighbors need power for medical reasons. We have boarded a few windows and have solid barricades in front of others. But we did this only after listening to so many “warnings” yesterday. I really didn’t feel like we needed to do it. I am a very detail-oriented, analytical, planner-type person by nature but we have simply gone about our weekend with a “business as usual” attitude … and my whole family feels this way. So … just wanted to share and hope that maybe others understand.
My “dreams” have been a theme for a while now. My New Moon intention several weeks ago was to acknowledge and speak my dreams … for there is power in speaking.
I spent some time researching essential oils that would support this journey as I wasn’t able to find a blend that I could purchase. I thought I’d share it with the group in case someone else wanted to explore using EOs to support their journey. I use mine in a special candle as well as a diffuser. The could also be used in a carrier oil for personal used. If anyone would like more info on methods, I’d be glad to share.
The components help to release obstacles (physical and emotional), connect with intuition, and relax into clarity.
If you don’t want to have to purchase the oils to put this together, I’ll be glad to make up a candle for you. Here’s the link to purchase one.
If you would rather purchase a bottle of the oil blend, please use the contact form to get in touch with me.
